WSOP 14th June

At the weekends Vegas fills up with punters with money to burn, and alot of them fancy there chances as the next Stu Unger, so its a good time to get the fishing rod out and go fishing! I decided not to play the WSOP $1500 NL event today, the field would be huge, and trying to fight my way through them just didnt seem a good idea with me in my current "i hate Vegas" frame of mind! I would like to point out that i am very aware of how lucky i am to do this as a job, and to moan and groan about how tired i am, how i dont like the Rio, how its too hot etc when most people would chop off there right arm to do what i do- but i do like to write it how i see it/feel it, and at the moment im just not feeling the Vegas love! Im staying in a 5 star suit, im fine dinning every night and "working" in one of the worlds finest poker rooms at the Venetian but it still dont feel good! So defo no Rio today, i instead go for a $560 buy in event in the Venetian deepstack extravaganza, 15,000 starting chips and a 40 minute clock but with a pretty fast structure. Well basically it went *** up! I was completely card dead, seeing 66 once, AA once and the mighty AJ once, naturally i lose most of my stack with AA. The field was what i expected, weekend holiday makers playing weekend poker, and playing it pretty bad. My table had four young american chaps on it who each took turns to go in the tank and steal some more camera time (ok there was no cameras, and this was a £300 buy in, but come on this is vegas, let them live out there dreams), on my left there was a beatiful looking mother of three who had that poker players dream problem of getting great start hands, hitting and getting paid- the getting paid part i found puzzling has she only bet when she had the goods but i think the american guys just couldnt cope with a women pushing them around so just had to try and out play her. But by far the most annoying player on my table was a middle aged american guy, smartly dressed, well groomed with a pleasent manner but who had obviously been bullied as a child. This read is all based on his pain up the *** annoying habit of slamming his cards on the table when he had the winning hand, "there you go son i got you, take some of my sh1t you *** sucker, you cant bully me anymore"!!!! Well he never actually said the words, but you know for sure he was thinking them. Naturally i lose most of my money with the aces to him. Ive not played a hand for a 1 1/2 hours as i find it very difficult to play Q4 suited never mind unsuited! (Q4 is without question my most dealt hand this year in vegas). So finely i get AA and i make it 550 to go from mid position everyone folds apart from mildman in the big blind. The flop comes 8h8cJs a great flop against mildman who plays like he looks, tight. I bet 600 and he calls. Turn is a 2h. Im sure my hand is good and im putting him on QJ, KJ or AJ, from what ive seen from this player i think he raises here with an 8 as he generally seemed to play his big hands fast. i check and he bets 2,000, waisting no time i make it 8,000 to go. He snap calls. Now im starting to doubt the hand range i have him on. The river is 10h, he checks. After much thought i check, i still feel my AA is good but see no reason to bet the rest of my chips, so i check and he slam dunks his cards in the middle of the table "Ive got you you english sh1t!!!!! Dont fcuk with me" he screams (ok he didnt actually say the words out loud, but he WAS thinking them). his hand was the most unexpected KhQh, a lovely play rewarded with a back door flush on a paired board, so much for the tight player. Out played again. The blinds soon went up to 300/600 with a 50 running anti so i was waiting for any hand to push on, my timing out-i push from the button with K3 and run into AQ, vegas loves me baby...........................i lose. Now when im at home playing online if i run bad i dont play, if im tired i dont play and defo i dont play when i feel a certain pain for the game, at this moment i had all three problems, but my problem is im in Vegas, what can i do if im not playing poker? I cant stand the pit games, i cant stand the fruit machines and i can only eat so much! Though i dont mind a show here or there, going watching them on my own while everyone else plays poker would be high up the sad list so really the only two things left are play poker online which would be top of the sad list or having a few beers. As ive been as good as off the beer for over a month i wast going to start that now.......................so i head to the sports bar slip a $100 bill into the poker machine and order a beer. Four or five beers and $700 later im thinking the cash tables are a much cheaper option, so i pull myself together and get back to the grind recording my first winning session on this trip, only a small win of a few hundred but its a win and at the moment i'll take any win no matter how small. Theres no WSOP event for me today so im looking at rounding off my WSOP trip in either tomorrows $2000 NLHE event or Tuesdays $1500 event..........that is if i want to go chasing a braclet, the Ballagio $1000 events may actually be the place i finsh this years Vegas trip, smaller, weaker fields offer a much better chance of a cash and at the moment, with my record in Vegas all i want is a bloody cash.
