As ive probably mention several hundred times before most of my day is now taken up as a full time mentor at badbeat. My job isn’t to teach people to play, more a case of lend them an ear when needed mainly when things are going pair shaped, but hopefully I do help people improve there game as well as being chief fire fighter, from the feed back I get im pretty sure this is true for most who have had sessions with me. As I said I personally think a mentor does more for a player when hes losing than when hes winning, when a players winning it’s the easiest game in the world- winning at poker is the easy part, its losing when a true winner stands up to be counted.  I think im very well qualified on the requirements to dig oneself out of a hole and return to a positive P&L- in fact I could write the book on it! I have pretty standard thoughts on whats required to get back in profit, and with most things with me its not rocket science! The key elements are bankroll management, table selection, knowing your players and knowing when to quit! Take my own game. Now I have a big daily limit, big enough to go play up to the 25/50 if required (obviously doesn’t happen very often though, im a chicken)! As ive only just got myself out of a BIG hole I don’t want to back there so I have what I feels a pretty fool proof way of avoiding big losing days………I start by playing low, simple or what?! My sessions 99% of the time start at the 200nl game, my thinking: if im running bad I find out cheap thus no pain! If I run good I can start opening 500nl games and closing the 200nl games, if I run good there I can open 1000nl games etc etc………..told you it was simple! The next step is when to quit- well if I start of bad at 200nl and keep getting it shoved up me, 5-10 buy ins is usually enough for me to call it a day. If on the other hand I start winning and step up and then start losing, well I don’t like to win and not bank some profit- so if I lose over 50% of the daily profit I usually call it a day- banking winning days no matter how small soon add up! Then there’s table selection, for me it doesn’t matter what site you play there’s always good players and bad players………so why not try playing the bad players and try avoiding the good players?! Jesus this really is good stuff!!!!!!!!!  Then knowing your players, seriously whats the point of 3 betting a player with rags if he never folds to a 3 bet? Whats the point of firing 3 bullets at a player who never folds a pair ever? And whats the point of checking trips to the same player???!!!!!! Yep its all rocket science!!!!! Of course the magical touch is to run hot and hit everything you play, unfortunately for most in my group this doesn’t happen to often so they got to find other ways to beat the game!!!!!!! So to yesterday were I played like a fish, so passive it hurt- don’t think ive played so weak in months………but its was 200nl, I lost 2 buy ins, played as bad as I can and lost 2 buy ins……..no pain and no real damage to the P&L…………rocket science!!
