Strummer9's Diary - Week 85 - Sunday 27th

Sunday 27th

Firstly let me point out that the diary entry could end very suddenly as i've not brought my power pack and the battery life on this laptop is way short of an hour - so I will talk quickly!!!

Main event Day Two short stacked with big blinds and it didn't look good. Two levels in and i've built my stack up to a very playable 30,000 but the blinds and anti mean its playable for just a couple of hands. After losing 10k on a couple of blind steals gone wrong my 'moment' arrived. On the big blind I find AcKc - its folded to the cut off who raises AGAIN with position to 6,000 (blinds 1000/2000).

Now, though he liked to raise in good position he had shown a hand every time - 99, 88, kk and AQ - so there was repect for his raises. On the button a new player to our table took his time before moving all in with his 30k. Now I had a problem. A raise and a re raise and i've got ace high. My thinking was clear I was putting the first raise of mid pairs and i'm confident i'm right and also 100% sure if I push he folds - thats the easy part now to the new player. Having only been at the table for 5 hands I had no idea how he played so I resort to the maths first off all.

I'm getting good value my 20k to win a pot of 50k so 6/4. Only hands i'm not getting value on is if he holds AA or KK any other hand im getting huge value. Then there's the blinds, every round costs 5,000 chips so i'm not in a position to sit and wait for cards and i'm going to find such a good 'gambling spot' again. After mulling over the hand for 5 minutes or so I had decided though I don't like to call a re re raise with ace high - all in all it was probably the right time to do it - win this and I really am back in the game.

I then asked the new player his alias - it was atiein64 - a player i've played many times in a past and a player who I knew could make this play with any two cards thus it made my decision just a tad easier though to be honest i'd already decided to call. The first raiser folds and I flip over my ak and atkien AA - cant get it in much further behind than that especially with my skill of not being able to stick real sick beats on people.

So the end of another dream as I exit, left in 60th place - once again close but no cigar. I feel a little down at that moment - I came here with hopes of finally getting my live results back on track. But it wasn't the gamble today that was the problem - the AK play was the right play for the right reasons - no the mistake yesterday cost me so all I can do is remember and learn.
